Maker Lab Safety Training

Maker Lab Safety Training

We want to make sure that everyone who visits the Maker Lab is empowered to use our equipment safely and competently. Learning and adhering to safe practices will help prevent personal injury and damage to equipment.

We've created this course to help you learn how to safely and effectively use the various pieces of equipment in the Maker Lab. The course will grow as we add equipment and develop new training materials, so check back for additions.

Each of the modules consists of an instructional video with an accompanying quiz that can be completed in about ten minutes. Completion of each training module will be recorded in your Maker Lab user account.

All of the large pieces of equipment in the Maker Lab shop are kept physically locked out with a keyed lock for safety reasons. Once you have completed the safety module for a particular tool, the Maker on Duty will be able remove the lock whenever you need to use it. Just ask for assistance when you come in to use a tool.

Step 1: Read/Watch the training materials for each module listed below.

Step 2: Take and pass the short quiz for the tool(s) you want to be able to use.

Step 3: Come in and complete a brief tool demo with one of our Makers on Duty, showing that you understand the basics and can safely operate the tool. After the demo, you'll be cleared to use that tool whenever you need it.
